No Point, That’s The Point

Useless machineUseless machine

As a kindness to the Other Chap, John thought …

… that he would assuage Graham’s evident fears of sinister machines by demonstrating others simply quaint in their pointlessness. This one mainly just protects itself, in the best non-violent tradition.

while these just – well, see for yourself.

Rather sweet, really. I do hope this helps the OtherChap.

The Other Chap responds, even more worried Helps? Helps, you say? Don’t be fooled. Just because you can’t see the purpose doesn’t mean there isn’t one, just better-hidden. Why, this one can even taunt you to near-madness.

Personally, this Chap would prefer it that his Mechanical Overlord at least be upfront about it. Meantime perhaps it’s time for a little lie down…

PS: Speaking of performance art

That’s one hell of a segue!

… while still in that biz, Graham proposed the building of a series of Machines To Replace Man. Chief among them were the Machine That Bites The Hand That Feeds It and the Machine That Runs Away. Never built, alas…

But clearly absorbed into the Zeitgeist at some level, though.

Sure, like that’s a comfort.

Maybe this is

The Point! is a fable that tells the story of a boy named Oblio, the only round-headed person in the Pointed Village, where by law everyone and everything must have a point. Nilsson explained his inspiration for The Point!: “I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, ’Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn’t, then there’s a point to it.

Harry Nilson

My point being that - I am with Harry on this one - everything has a point

Then again, I am not with Harry in his decision to allow a fairly trite innocuous forgettable album be translated to a London stage show featuring Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz - filed under ‘Things Your Can’t Unsee.’
