A group of Oxford dons were sunbathing nude by the River Cherwell when a female student floated by in a punt. Most of them scrambled to cover their nakedness, but Sir Maurice Bowra instead put a flannel over his head. When asked why, he said, “I don’t know about you, gentlemen, but in Oxford I, at least, am known by my face.”
