And Another Thing …

… when we first launched this online dialogue and discussion magazine waaaaay back in December of last year … what nearly two months ago now, this chap … and the other chap … had a little bit of a ‘to-and-fro’ on some thoughts about our ‘monikers’. Our ‘nom de plumes’. Our online identities, if you will - at least as they might be understood within these four walls. (Talk about breaking a metaphor !)… This chaps personal favourite fell along the lines of ..

‘Doctor Watson and his homey’

… this because he was fully aware of the other chap being oh-so-so-close to being awarded his doctorate and this chap enjoyed the word-play on Conan Doyle’s hero though updated through the (dare I say) rather clever urban reference to being someone’s homey. You might even have spotted a couple of posts where said Doctorate was referenced - albeit tangentially. There was this one. And then this one. Well, as you will have come to realize, this chap did not win that particular debate. If memory serves, the other chap felt that the pun was going to be overused if not too careful. So the idea was dropped. Much as a red hot poker would be, if grabbed with an un-mittened hand. That said, this chap had it in mind that he would reference it when the other chap became ‘Doctor Chap’. Today is that day. I am delighted to report, nay ANNOUNCE, that my good friend, colleague and all round good chap was informed today that he has been conferred as a ‘Doctor of Philosophy’, or PhD as this chap more commonly refers to it. I just wanted to bring this to your attention - since knowing that the other chap  is English … he is already well on his way to not saying anything. Couple that with the fact that he is the other chap, the news had the potential of becoming a secret deeper than anything in the US government. Other chap adds, topically, – not too deep at all, then. Now - while I admit that since January 20th 2017, this has become an extraordinarily low bar, this chap is still rather surprised that he found out. But it is true. The other chap is - and forever shall be known as …

 ‘Doctor Watson’

… many MANY congratulations my friend.

Dr. Graham replied, in true-to-culture fashion

Aye. Well. ’appen. Ah’m nobbut thankful, thaa knows.

The Other Chap recognizes …

… that this is the typical self-deprecating ’stuff-of-stuff that us English chaps have been known for - with the added spin of the Yorkshire dialect that neither of us currently utilize, though we both hail from that county. Rather it appears to have emerged rather recently in this particular production - was it the Yorkshire Water that triggered it? This chap can’t quite recall.

And Graham added a sad (but real) note…

…there was even a phrase for it. As Dad used to say, Don’t talk [phrase] to your Grand-Dad. The sad thing? This chap couldn’t even remember the phrase until just now… but it was, “blinding with science,” as in, “Don’t go blinding your Grand-Dad with science” (at not-quite-six years old). Which ability is sadly, and almost ironically, what this Chap reticently celebrates today. Aye, well…

This chap loved Stanley …

… and seems to recall that he was first aware of him through Junior Choice with Ed Stewart on Saturday Mornings  … Yup - that was it. Though don’t recall Leslie Crowther hosting first. The Crackerjack chap …

It’s Friday, it’s five to five and it’s Crackerjack

Gorgeous. Quite Simply Gorgeous. Not just this track. But the whole album. Then between 13 and 17 I’d dreamed of all the things I’d be and how I’d see you all from high on a
